Review of El Paso, Texas

El Paso is not really like Texas
Star Rating - 7/3/2008
El Paso is much like New Mexico. Although there's no income tax here, high property taxes make up for it, with one wage earner's state income tax in New Mexico being about equal to the difference in property tax for a comparable house. Note: If there are 2 or more wage earners in the same household, it definitely pays to live in El Paso. Although most of Texas is on Central Time, we are on Mountain - like NM. This is high desert with mountains and a climate that is sunny and dry. Politics here are much more like NM than TX, with about 60% registered Democrats. I lived in Fort Worth and Houston for 9 years and just moved here last November. If it wasn't for the fact that I didn't need a new driver's license, I'd never know I was still in Texas.
