Review of Enterprise, Alabama

Unemployment rate
Star Rating - 10/17/2008
I have lived in Enterprise, AL since 1977. I wasn't born in Enterprise and it is hard to be accepted in this small town if you weren't "born and raised" here. I have been here for 31 years and you would think a person could be accepted as being "from here".
The unemployment rate in Enterprise is really high. I done a search and came up with a 3.0%. I don't know where that figure came from but there is no way it can be correct. Enterprise has always been a place that was low on jobs and pay. Because of Ft. Rucker there are too many people in this town. Since Enterprise is the largest city close to Ft.Rucker, people from Ft. Rucker come to Enterprise. A lot of the soldiers wives work in Enterprise. They will hire a soldiers wife to work before they will someone that lives in Enterprise, knowing they will be leaving in a few months. I have seen this happen so many times. I don't understand that at all. Because the unemployment rate is so high and jobs are so hard to find employers rate of pay is extremely low because they know they can do that. There are not many labor laws in the state of Alabama either so they can get away with it. If you don't like the pay then someone is waiting for you to quit so they can have your job. I have been on an interview for a job and there would be hundreds of applicants for that one job. I have been to the employment office to get an application and while I was in there filling out the application there must have been around twenty women coming in applying for the same job. I asked the guy at the desk in the employment office about it and he said they had been swamped with applications for that one job. It's rediculous!
Oh yeah, immigrants from Mexico are multiplying by the 100's monthly. Everywhere you go there are mexican immigrants which only adds to the unemployment rate.

Thanks to Fort Rucker and the military, there ARE more jobs here in Enterprise than would be otherwise. Many MANY positions are filled with the so called "locals". So the "locals" are taking positions on post from the military spouses pretty much evens itself out. If anything, far more jobs are available on Fort Rucker to local civilians than in Enterprise for military spouses. Enterprise is a great little city. Stop whining and get an education so you can get a better paying job.
