A University Town

The Eugene area is a great place to live if you like outdoor recreations. We are 45 minutes from the beach. About an hour from skiing. A lot of fishing and camping opportunities. The town itself has great shopping and intertainment through the Hult Center and other venues. However, Eugene is very liberal. We had a cross on a hill that had been there many years to commemorate WWII vets. It was removed a few years ago because some people were offended by it. Another liberal move of our City Councel (joke) was a ban on Christmas trees in businesses within city limits. Half the town are old hippies, the other half are yuppies. We have a high crime rate, but you would never know it because the one and only newspaper do not publish most of the crime. Nor does the local news. Trying to portray a picture perfect college town. We also have problems with some corrupt police agencies. ( I know this because I was married to an officer). We also have many homeless, and I expect it to get worse since there are few jobs here. The taxes keep going up but our roads remain in disrepair. The weather is awful. We probably have two months of the year that are really terrific. Eugene is a great place to raise a family (if you have a job)and pretty good schools. But for folks like us who are close to retirement, I can't wait to get outta here!
