Fort Lauderdale Arts

The city has a good variety of cultural outlets. While not as ingrained as you might expect in other parts of the United States, there are outlets. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts hosts touring companies of Broadway Shows and many local groups like the Miami Ballet. Broward County maintains a cultural commission to promote the Arts and has a regular exhibit space for young artists called Artserve. The Broward County Library at 38 branches is the largest system in the state of Florida. It sponsors arts and other programs all year long. What Fort Lauderdale doesn't have is any appreciation for classical music. The philarmonic disbanded and the last radio station changed formats. South Florida is probably the only metropolitan area in the country without a classical radio outlet.
