I moved to Fort Worth from Austin a year ago for a job and had modest expectations. I have been very pleasantly suprised to find it is has become a lovely city with one of the best arts communities in the southwest, a lively Downtown (where I live), and tons of outdoor recreation (river hike/bike trail runs 50+ miles). Approximately 5000 people live Downtown now, which is the ideal place to live for younger (or older) single peeople. It is relatively expensive, however cheaper than Austin. Interestingly, Austin gets a lot of publicity for its quality of life (which it deserves), yet Fort Worth has many of the same characteristics people love about Austin - and is superior in many respects (better neighborhoods, better visual arts scene, better Downtown).
Since Fort Worth is growing so rapidly I suspect it won't be long before it gains a similar buzz as the one Austin has had for the last 10+ years.
