Review of Fultondale, Alabama

Fultondale/Gardendale - Nice Places to Live in AL
Star Rating - 7/6/2022
My husband and I have lived here for 3 years. Moved from Calera, AL where we had lived for 10 years. My commute was cut in half. The trip into Birmingham for work was always a nightmare from Calera. Now I have a choice to hit the Interstate or drive down highway 31 which is low traffic. We moved into an older neighborhood with large yards, mature trees and a quiet atmosphere. All our neighbors know us and our pups. For those that are spending all their money in Crestwood on homes that need serious renovations, you should take a hard look at Fultondale and/or Gardendale. Many well maintained older homes that just need some updating. Plenty of shopping is close by or if you wish to go into Birmingham's entertainment district, it just a 10 to 15 minute drive.
The downside to the area is there are mainly only chain restaurants and fast food. Not that they are all bad, but it would be nice to have some locally owned dining and maybe some upscale dining. But again, it's a 10 to 15 minute drive to Pepper Place and all the restaurants and entertainment in that area.
For those with children going to school, I can't tell you much. I suspect as with the majority of Alabama, the school buildings are huge and new, but the educational scoring compared to nationwide is average.
Homes in my neighborhood are selling in the upper 100's to the mid $250's. That is a typical ranch built in the 60's/70's with garages, basements (many are split foyer), but many are single level as well.
Fultondale/Gardendale has some great parks for the kids, and some awesome walking trails.
I believe for young couples buying their first homes, or if you just want to slow down the pace a bit, Fultondale/Gardendale might be a good solution.
