Review of Greenfield, Missouri

Best for Retirement
Star Rating - 6/4/2014
I have lived here in Greenfield 13 years.Pop. is low,1,371.Clean little town with minor shopping.2 large doctor clinics,Dollar General,mid-sized grocery,Sub Way,2 auto parts stores, lumber and hardware. This is the county seat of Dade County,Missouri.Stockton Lake is 5-10 minutes away.Very clean, pristine.Lots of state and corps of Eng. land for hunting or nature viewing.Springfield,Missouri(Missouri's 3rd largest city) is 45 minutes away.People are for the most part friendly.Republican strong hold,no culture, low crime.Major employers are nursing home and Pennington Seed(package lawn grass and bird seed for WalMart). You MUST have a reasonable set retirement income.Land and homes here are very affordable. You could live an OK life here on $2k-$3k per month.Climate is hot/cold/mild.Tornado belt is about 20 miles south of here.Water/sewer/garbage=$50 month.Landline with internet=$50-$70.Electric=$30-$60.Natural gas to heat a modest home in the coldest months of winter=$100+ per month.Rents range from $250-$500.The plus for me is the access to hunting and clean water fishing.City is close but..far enough away.I love it here.
