We retired here from Houston 6 years ago. We found Gulf Shores by accident, as the fact that Alabama HAS a coast is not widely known! It is "land locked" unlike most other Gulf Coast towns. (No ocean highway, linking town to town, etc.) It has a family atmosphere, has a WONDERFUL infrastructure and facilities that would be found in much larger communities!!! Churches are small, friendly........one can get very involved in all aspects of the town. (The mayor is a neighbor!) We get about 15-17,000 "snowbirds" a year, who are very active in the community (fund raisers, etc.) and busy in the summer, BUT most of all a small tight knit community for ALL who live here, no matter where you are originated!! WE love it..................
