Review of Hines, Oregon

Burns/Hines Oregon area.
Star Rating - 2/28/2008
Located in very rural and remote area of Oregon. Harney County is cattle country with an area of 10,000 sq. mi. and a population of about 7,000. It has some of the lowest temperatures in winter and can be quite hot in mid-summer but overall it's not bad. It's comparable to Western Pennsylvania temperature-wise but with considerably less precipitation.
Burns and Hines are adjacent to one another with a total population of about 4500. The crime rate is low and cost of housing is below average.
The populace is friendly but rather "Dogpatchish". The nearest large town is Bend, a 2 hour drive. Bend has an airport with connections to several western cities. The nearest major airport is Boise, ID about a 3 hr. drive from Burns/Hines. The area is similar to Alamogordo where I lived for 20 yrs. before coming here. There is National Forest nearby and several reservoirs for fishing within an hour or so drive.
