I lived in Homestead for 10+ and yes, I agree things have changed. A lot of it has to do with the rapid growth that Homestead experienced during the real estate boom. It is very sad.
Homestead used to be a farming area, everyone new each other and many years ago it had that small town feeling that which has Been lost. Crime and break ins have gone up drastically. This is one of the reasons why I relocated.
The school system is very poor. Homestead is not known for good schools. If you are planning on raising a family this is not a good choice. I myself have no kids and yet I would not want to live in Homestead.
