Review of Homewood, Alabama

10% Sales Tax , 21% Lodging Tax , High Millage
Star Rating - 12/16/2017
Average median home cost $293K, average water/sewer bill for family of two exceeds $100/mo. Sales tax rate one of the highest in the country at 10% and unlike other states, sales tax is applied to grocery food purchases and medicines. Property taxes in Homewood include one of the highest millage rates in the state, but a rate hike is in the works. Extravagant City Council chambers and City offices. Great disconnect between wealthy neighborhoods and seedy hotels rented by the hour. Overall a wonderful place to live unless you are poor.
