Review of Houston, Texas

So every city has drawbacks. I've lived in Minneapolis, MN most of my adult years (only 34 though) and am done. It's clean, cultured and friendly....cost of living is high and winter is 4-6 months. The lack of sun it killing me. Most of the winter has been -10 to 20 degrees. Oh, and when you are single. It is two degrees of seperation. Everyone is connected unless you are new to the Twin Cities.

I've also lived in Tampa and San Fran. I looked at San Diego but how does one afford to live without having two jobs. I'm debating between going back to Tampa or moving to Texas. I've been looking into Austin and Houston. I would like to be near the ocean or in driveable distance. I love water sports and love to scuba dive. I don't mind hot and humid. I liked knowing in Tampa when it would rain in the summers. Everyday around 3 or 4 pm.

So..I am looking for feedback. I'm looking for a place I can settle down and live for years and eventually raise a family. Where does a single, active female pick up and move too?????? I want activity, culture and family values.

Oh....don't forget the job market. Need to know about that too!

Best Regards!

Houston is a wonderful city! Great jobs, good pay, and lots of work. Yes it does get hot but the winters are mild. If you are a liberal you'd want Austin....but watch out for the high cost of living. Houston's cost of living is reasonable and the pay's good.

Sounds like Austin may be good for you.

Warning to Yankee women: Some--certainly not all--women from Texas will try to give you the impression that they are so much more genteel and mannerly BECAUSE they are Southern Belles. Don't buy into it. These so-called Southern Belles can be total backstabbing/gossipy harpies who love to put Yankee women down, so they can feel superior.

I've also been living in a the twin cities for about 4 years. The lack of sun and social climate makes me feel less motivated to do anything but stay warm most of the year. It's work feeling happy. I am considering Richmond, Va. I can't handle any type of extreme climate. I was sent a Richmond housing listing but I am uncertain about the economy there. I have heard that Texas has been labeled as a recession proof state? Let me know wht u think:)
