Review of Independence Charter, Michigan

A nice place to live if you can afford it
Star Rating - 5/25/2008
I've lived here for the past 31 years. It's basically a bedroom community for somewhere else. Unfortunately the job market in Michigan, as a whole, sucks as does the political climate and taxes overall. Very good school system. Housing values are becoming more realistic daily (imploding). Rural/semi-rural area (1/2 hr N of Detroit if you drive like everyone else around here). A major outdoor entertainment venue is located here and two more are nearby. There is a commercial ski hill with two others within minutes. If you can't stand lots of snow and cold weather, don't even consider it. It usually starts snowing around Thanksgiving and finally quits around Mother's Day with several inches constantly on the ground. Lots to see and do within a short drive. Beautiful rolling hills and LOTS of lakes. It's a budding artist community. I love the place but can't find a decent job to pay the outrageous taxes so I'll be leaving before much longer. Adios 'rust belt'.
