What a wonderful community...

Ione, California sits at the western base of the Sierra Mountains. We are a small town with a main strip of several blocks consisting of two storey buildings from the mid 1800's. This is the first "gold rush town", yet never cashed in on its claim to fame. Because of this, we remain a quiet, low crime, neighbor friendly town.

I was driving through Ione today and it didn't look anything like what I saw just a few months ago. I'm thinking that the COVID nightmare has affected small business there. Some of the shops were empty/closed/for rent. The town looked 'tired'. Then I saw a casino 7 miles out and new homes being built. What's going on in Ione?
