Review of Joplin, Missouri

Information please.

My family and I are considering a move to Joplin, and we currently live in the Chattanooga, Tn. area. We like the climate here and the mountainous terrain, but not the high price in real estate. We had initially been looking at the Springfield area (because of it's proximity to the lakes and it's hilly terrain) but have scince changed our mind do to the many negative comments on the city. Anyway, can anyone who has lived in this area of Tn. tell me a little about there views on Joplin? Also, is it hilly like the Sprinfield area?

Joplin is not a good place to live or raise a family. The crime rate is high and is bound to get even worse over the next 10 years. Springfield, which is 100 miles northeast, still has quality schools while also offering low crime and a better job market than Joplin. However, there is more of a meth lab problem in Springfield (at least in certain parts). Generally, if you check the sex offender registry to make sure your house isn't near any sex offenders and research the schools your house is zoned to, you should be alright.
