Kalamazoo is rough, but that's not why the city is failing, the west side of the states only attraction is the lake, and summer tourism. Western Michigan's enrollment has been falling, along with several other companies that have been pulling out make for a dreary future. When a city depends so much on one university to bring in sustaining incomes, the prospect for success goes down quick. Unfortunately I think Kalamazoo will continue to loose people and jobs, and poverty and crime are not far behind.
