I am a real estate broker in the Kill Devil Hills area and the average house does not cost you $143,000. An average cost is $300,000 - and I can prove it. That is just residential!!! A rental home near oceanside will cost you $600,000. And the cost of living here is extremely high. It is considered resort area and it is very touristy. Trust me, I know.

Well Erica I'm not sure why you would make that comment because it is quite inaccurate. I have family that live in Kill Devil Hills. My sister and my niece have homes in Colington Harbor and my parents in Bermuda Bay. None of them paid 300,000!? It's TRUE there are many expensive homes but between 180 and 230 can be had. Now ocean front is of course very high. Many over a million.

Sorry I misread yes the Average 300,000 but you can still find under 250
