A great smaller city!

I liked Knoxville, but I had a few good friends in town when I moved here, so socializing wasn't a problem for me. I think it would have been a very fun place to go to college, but I can't say how easy it would be to make friends after then. I'm just not sure. I loved the location. The mountains nearby are great for weekend camping trips. For a city of it's size Knoxville has a number of great restaurants that will appeal to all different tastes.
It definately is still part of the South, if you're not from the South they'll be able to tell, but I never felt the people here cared. All in all, if you are looking for a nice small, Southern city with great outdoor activities and restaurants, you might like it here. It's not New York, and the culture and night life won't compete with those of a major city.
