"Hell on earth" is the best description of Lawton that I've ever heard. There are more gangs here than in many urban areas. Because of the way main U.S. highways intersect near here, this is a MAIN DRUG TRAFFICKING area of the entire country, which is actually Lawton's only claim to fame. The cops are crooked, the city council is corrupt and spins lies to get businesses to come here (and then they fail), and the statistics about how great the schools are? All lies. The schools here are terrible. The constant noise of bombs blowing up on Ft. Sill is nerve-wracking. There are hookers everywhere. Every single time a group of soldiers are deployed, the town is flooded with the dogs and cats that they take into neighborhoods and just dump. Actually, the one thing Lawton can legitimately brag about is that their animal shelter is pretty good.
