Ok..I will be 100 percent completely honest in this post. Forgive me if I offend anyone. First off I have lived in lawton for 26+ years. If it wasnt for my current situation personally and financially I wouldve left a long time ago...I will break it down for you...
rent/mortgages- rent here is so damn high!! everytime the military gets a raise in their BAH the realtors find out about it and raises their prices. I AM NOT in the military so it sucked living in an apartment that was once 460 end up being 625 monthly when i moved out...that was for 2 bedrooms and that was the landlord being nice. The price was supose to be 675 for me!!!
childcare-childcare here is great. but it is based around what the military works...in this town if you arent a soldier or a soldiers wife they dont give a damn about you..daycares are open mon-fri lord help if youre a single parent and have to work on saturdays you have nobody to keep your kids.
people- this town is all a big game...seems like everyones dream here is to marry a soldier so they can quit their job and mooch off of their GI...town is full of ghetto folks, strippers,meth heads and thugs...its also ran by a good old boys system...they are stuck in the 1960s dont want to change anything
culture- there is a mix of whites, blacks, mexicans, asians, and native americans
retail-retail is sad here...i mean people get excited over a new walmart being built or a buffalo wild wings or even an olive garden being here..you can tell lawton never have had much of anything..stores like the gap that were once here have moved..there are two casinos, tons of hotels..tons of cleaners and barbershops and eateries...this place was supose to have a hilton hotel and much more built still waiting on that
crime-i live on a good side of town...but stay off of the south side of town it is crime central drive bys in the daytime..this is the area around the airport..dont move on any street that has a state name or president name(IE-hoover, georgia, lincoln etc) it is BAD...its an ok place to raise your child if you live on the eastside of town ..nothing to do here other than go to the wildlife refuge or the top of the mountains
