Review of Madison, Mississippi

Very difficult to integrate
Star Rating - 4/11/2010
If you are not originally from Mississippi, you will have a difficult time integrating socially. You are asked who "your people" (i.e. family) are and if they aren't known or you aren't from here, they won't accept you. It is like the "old south" in the civil war era. There is the "good ole boys" club (mostly all preppy hunters and fisherman) who all look and act the same, and the women are expected to be a stepford wife and social conformist, playing the perfect hostess to all her shallow and superficial friends who also look, dress, and act the same. It is a world of the "have" and "have not" and the "haves" are snobby elite's. If you can manage to find people who have moved here from other places, you may end up with friends and grow to accept your lot in life here and do okay, but it takes a while if you aren't willing to become a Mississippi chameleon. Sorry, but there's not a lot of good to say about living here. I can't wait to move.
