Review of McAllen, Texas

Love it !!
Star Rating - 3/20/2006
Living in McAllen combines the best of two cultures. The city is very isolated from the rest of Texas but 1hour from South Padre Island. The city feels like a small town but has all the retail shopping of a large city. Schools are okay and the retired snowbirds show up every winter to boost the local economy. The climate is hot and windy, but there are beautiful citrus orchards everywhere. You can get a maid who speaks only Spanish to come in for about $25-35 for a half day. The only "problem" is the isolation, 3hours to drive to San Antonio. However, if you want a sunny climate with warm TexMex personality, the low cost of living of a small city with the conviences of a large one, check out McAllen one weekend and see what you're missing.
