Review of Nashville, Tennessee

Day Care
Star Rating - 3/9/2008
We used the day care Outlook Nashville and were very pleased. It was a non-profit and always seemed to be scraping by but the care was good, the care givers were experienced, and we were pleased with the community of kids and parents.
Outlook merged with the day care First Steps. Six months or so later the Outlook campus was closed. This move was proposed by the executive, formerly of First Steps, that now oversaw both facilities. The reasons given were that safety was compromised, the staff was in need of re-training and that major renovations were required.
We were told that the Outlook facility would open in thee months. The opinion of virtually all parents involved was that the merger was simply a grab at Outlook's deep financial resources that came along with their relatively weak board of directors. Three months later and we still have no word on the opening. There has been no effort to keep the families informed much less the promised updated web site.
This is all past history and it sounds like I am grinding an axe. Guilty as charged. My only word of (biased) advice on First Steps is that the executive can’t be trusted.
On a brighter note, Kinder Care on Swiss Avenue has been great since we left Outlook. It is a for-profit business and has a corporate parent. The care givers and the management are professional and they have some really good people. They are not closed many days through the year, probably due to the for-profit nature. My only complaint is that there has been a lot of movement of caregivers in my daughter’s room in the last month or so. This has an obvious downside of a child not seeing the same face most days and/or most of any given day. I give Kinder Care Swiss high marks.
