Nashville is a great place to raise children. It is a relatively wholesome city with good schools if you can afford private schools. The public school system in Davidson county is not good (it is "ok" in Brentwood). Nashville is what I would call "milquetoast". It is not an exciting place to live, it has mediocre restaurants, not much to do for the size that it is, it is not culturally or racially diverse, it is too "landlocked" for my taste, and the people are somewhat boring and conservative (both behaviorally and politically). But it is a very pretty city. It is clean, the homes have large lot sizes (you pay a pretty penny for real estate within Davidson County) it is very green (and i don't mean in the mother earth/recycling way...in that way they are behind the times)and there are four almost equal seasons. The summers can be brutal with regards to the heat index but overall there is enough sunshine throughout the year to satisfy even the hardiest of sun worshipers. There may be one little dusting of snow per year. The per capita crime is relatively high with theft and break-ins seeming to be the crime du jour. If we had to move (which we will eventually) I would not feel distraught, but it is not necessarily an undesirable place to live; in fact, some people absolutely love it here and would not live anywhere else. However, most of those people are the same people that pronounce "We are 7th generation Nashvillians!" To which I think, "Oh, I'm sorry...."
