Natchitoches is a gem in the upper Louisiana, Mississippi and East Texas area. It is a destination spot for the weekend for all 3 states and has a lively weekend festival schedule as well as a rich southern spanish, french, indian history. One of the few national historic registry downtown areas, this french/spanish river town is charming and one of the most beautiful in this country. Cost of living is very low, medical facilities accessible, and a university within walking distance (with one of the best gym's in the country). Restaurants are a challenge, though there is a new japanese restaurant in the center of town that is good.
