Facts:
New Orleans has the worst murder rate, education system, and crime of any other place in the U.S.
Why would anyone move there knowing this? You might ask yourself, "Then why do people live there?". The answer: Family ties and for the culture that once was.
Current Problem:
The Govenor and Mayor take most of the Katrina money and other state funds to put in their personal bank accounts and the bank accounts of their friends and family (I mean contractors, yea right).
They should be taking this opportunity to turn N.O. around. IF we did have elected officials who could work together and come up with a plan, it would STILL take years and years to straighten N.O. out.
Solution:
We have to replace of ALL the politicians and cops with people who care about N.O. but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Who in their right mind would want to clean up that mess? They would probably have an "accidental" death.
N.O. does not do anything to bring new businesses in or keep existing businesses. They are so lucky that the Saints stayed to keep all that revenue in the city. As the city declines because of the crime and lack of good jobs, they might eventually leave. You CAN find jobs in N.O. now BECAUSE people sit back and collect government checks and don't want to work but they're not good paying jobs. Anyone who is offended by that must be getting a government check.
There are some nice areas of N.O. and it is a fun place to be at for Mardi Gras but I am very cautious to tell a stranger to travel N.O. alone without a local to guide them. If you make one wrong turn, you will end up in the projects which would be a terrifying place for anyone! You might end up dead or at least stabbed! The projects surround the entire city!
If you listen to rap music, the "musicians" brag about the crime and list the many project areas and how many people they have killed. What a great way to influence the thousands of poorly educated children of N.O., our future leaders!
I am a life long resident of N.O. so I know what I'm talking about. I'm currently in Iraq and feel safer here even though we get bombed every day by terrorists! I have more respect for them because at least they are willing to sacrifice their own lives for something they believe in. Trust me, if you walk down the streets of N.O. and run into a criminal with a loaded gun, the gunner will take your money, shoot you, and keep on walking to find the next victi
