I work in Oklahoma City and live in a nearby suburb. This is one of the nicest large cities in the country. With a metro population of about 1.2 million the city is diverse and friendly. The Bricktown area is great for conventions and will be attracting lots of interest in coming years. There is a significant fine arts community and a growing performing arts presence. There are also many wonderful references to the unique cultural mix that formed the area. The city is very safe and enjoys excellent emergency services. The cost of living is unbelievably low. I recently built a 2400 square foot home on a corner lot in a very nice neighborhood for less than 250K. With energy and technology companies in strong growth trends the financial future of the city looks great.
I believe our city is on the edge of exponential growth, and the city planners have done a great job preparing for this in terms of infrastructure and service. The nice thing is that the city is so large geographically (620 square miles) that even double digit growth should not have an adverse effect of lifestyle.
The population is also very conservative and traditonal, but not in the perjorative way of some places. The pioneer nature of the city lends to a more "live and let live" attitude, but family values are still important. To put a point to that Churces, Temples, Mosques, and Synagogues outnumber bars about 20 to 1.
Come visit and you may very well find yourself looking at real estate.
