Review of Oneonta, New York

A wonderful place to raise your family!
Star Rating - 9/13/2010
Our family has lived in Oneonta for the past 14 years. It is great! Oneonta is safe, friendly, active and serene. The hills will grab you and keep you. Whikle not NYC it is an easy hour from Albany and Binghamton. Many dance classes, theater, sports, culture, great Downtown and so much more!

Oneonta is an unusual city. Politically it is starting to make the transfer to Democratic. This is relevant because Dems and Repubs are different. The Dem will campaign for more public money and then forget that it is public money. What is needed to restore Oneonta is to increase the number of taxpayers by improving the quality of life. Many things can be done to achieve this but are ignored because a solution offers nothing to campaign about. The middle class is fleeing causing the true rate of poverty to be over 1/3 of the actual population. The Dems enjoy using Section 8 vouchers to increase housing but that only drives people away. County Social Services offers furniture, vouchers, and just about everything our Gov wants. Problem is that there is virtually no private investment in Oneonta because of the increasing number of individuals at the poverty level. The current Mayor claims he is simply "waging war on poverty," as Johnson did in 1968. Most crimes are unreported except ones that involve police activity. It's time that the police actually protected the quality of life and did some traffic enforcement. Then expect a remarkable change in Oneonta for the better.
