Review of Ordway, Colorado

My Town
Star Rating - 10/20/2009
Ordway is a very small, quiet town located on the south-eastern plains of Colorado. Population: about 1200 or so. We are 25 miles away from La Junta, and 50 miles away from Pueblo, which makes shopping a little inconvenient. There are plenty of open spaces around and you can usually see for 10 miles or more: You can see the Front Range Mountains on a clear day. There is a feed lot a couple of miles outside of town, which gives the people of the town some jobs, but also a smelly, lingering dust cloud hovering over us during certain hours of the day. (Not good for people w/ respiratory problems) It tends to be quite windy here and is usually quite a dry, sometimes hot climate overall. The schools are Ok. There are 2 prisons close by, a nursing home, a handful of businesses, etc. which also provide some jobs. Our area seems to be in a chronically economically depressed state of being--long before our nations economy bottomed out. Cost of living isn't bad out here. However, the people out here tend to be tougher and more stubborn, and are willing to roll up their sleeves and get down to business.
