Rising Crime

We've lived in Orlando since 1990 and have, overall, enjoyed our time here. But in the last 5-7 years we've noticed a severe rise in crime. So much so, we're going to move (out of state) within the next 1-2 years. At our downtown home (in a nice, quiet residential area - south of the 408, west of Crystal Lake, east of Bumby) our cars have been broken into and two break-ins to our home have attempted - just in the last year!!
Before considering a move to O-Town, please seriously review the crime stats.

We were living in Orlando for a couple of years, but couldn't make it financially. We moved to Philly, and I hate it here. In hindsight, Orlando was the better place. The city is depressingly dirty in most places. The nicer areas are so inflated, one cannot afford a house or apartment. I am renting a house for 625 a month, but the neighborhood is a little scary. I miss Orlando so much, where the sun and heat lifted my spirits. Maybe we will move back. This time, I would settle into a slower area like Casselberry or Sanford.
