Review of Orlando, Florida

FORGET ABOUT IT!!

Learn from all of us...it does not exist!!
Orlando is WAY OVER RATED... the creation of powerful marketing.
We are NYC transplants but see no reason to continue living in this State after being here a number of years already. We only wished we had a place to go back to in NYC but like all the others we were seeking a place to make home - Orlando is NOT that place! We are currently planning a big move anywhere outside of this State. There seems to be a consensus from not only the posters here on this board but everyone we've met down here that this IS NOT a family friendly town nor is it for singles, or married folks, elderly or anyone else for that matter! There is virtually no sense of community in spite of how attractive many communities look. As for 'Southern hospitality?' let's just say that must be a marketer's creation too because many a folk have been lying injured on the road (from a hit and run!) and people just drive past like it's a minor nuisance. Nobody gives a hoot!
The people with money here exist only until their sales job transfers them across they country and employers will glady tell you "this is an at will State" meaning they could toss you any time and don't think they won't! Whether workers here are in hospitality or pharmeceuticals this is not a town of intellectuals and it is very obvious. Just open a copy of the local newspaper!
Nobody thinks long term as long as long as they are OK, for now! It was very interesting when the hurricanes hit us (not straight on either!) Orlando because it effected EVERYONE even the luxury communities were left stunned. The pristine homes and grounds suffered major damage and they had to survive days without power and endure the suffering along with everyone else. Sadly, the theme parks carried on as those nothing happened in Orlando. I watched in horror as the theme park sales team went on TV to let everyone know they were open. The nerve!... when devastation has just hit our town but the mighty $ rules. This is a pathetic and doomed town. Get out while you can and if you're still foolish enough to think you'd fare any better after reading all of these posts I suppose all I could say is... God be with you!
