I have now lived in Pahrump for five years. We moved here from Las Vegas because we were tired of not having any space, being fearful when sending kids to school, worrying about home invasion break-ins, and generally all things related to large city crime stats. I will say Pahrump has had it's growing pains; with that said there is now an open and operational hospital, a super wal-mart, huge amounts of new commercial office/retail space, and many other new businesses slated for development. It is about a 45 minute drive to the south end of las vegas with all needed shopping, dining, medical and technical facilities in that area. I can attest, that it has often taken me 45 minutes to get across the vegas valley, so the drive in from pahrump is a cost that I consider a trade off for the fact that my child can attend a private school for only $200 per month; the car doors have never been locked wether in the driveway or in the parking lot; the lock on my front door is usually left un-locked. I agree, it is a drive with fuel being $3 per gallon, and there are many businesses still needed here, however, it will change. I really enjoy being afforded the nightlife of vegas without the "costs". Homes are a bargain as well. I have searched the entire west coast and have found nothing that compares with the value in real estate that Pahrump still offers, even in a slow market.
