Review of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Relocating wondering about the housing available i
Star Rating - 9/19/2006
Our family has never even been to Pennsylvania. We are Midwesterners who were born in Kansas and just recently for the past three years have been in Iowa. My Husband is relocating with his job to Philadelphia. We are VERY scared cause of the "stereotype" sort of things we have been exposed to all our lives. We have three children and are very conservative people.
Anyway, as scary as it is, we are going through with it and "bravely" venturing that way. I can not imagine a place so big and I see on the internet all kinds of neighborhoods that sound like a town of their own. I have no idea where to look for housing that will be affordable and easily accesible and safe. I am sorry if I offend anyone by saying I am scared to move here---I suppose I would basically be scared no matter where it was we went cause we are so "Small-town". Anyway, I just want to have my kids in a good school, nice neighbors, and be able to let them play in the yard (if we have one).
We are working in the NE philadelphia area and are looking for suggestions on good places to begin our house hunting search (or apt, mobile home, etc. )
Thank you everyone ! :<)
