What did make the place I live great is that I live in the country at the base of Mt. Diablo. We have very moderate weather and everything I could possibly want is within a days drive (1 hour to the ocean, 2 hours to Napa Valley wine country and the redwoods, 3 hours to Yosemite, and 4 hours to good snow skiing in the Sierra's.
But for me, the cost of living in the California Bay Area is getting astronomical and more and more crowded every day.
