The Pearl District, NW Portland

The Pearl District is a great area of Portland, high energy urban in a lovely quality setting of residential buildings and lots of interesting shops and businesses. Very homey within a high energy, urban style setting, the Pearl District has an artistic and creative energy, with numerous art galleries, shops, boutiques, fashion forward people and many varied restaurants and cafes. The Pacific Northwest College of Art is nestled in the Pearl, too, which feels entirely fitting to the more relaxed ambiance. Photography for local wedding parties is frequently seen being shot at scenic ecology model Tanner Springs Park or a couple of blocks over at Jamison Square, which has a well-attended annual Christmas Tree lighting in December. Vertical sculptures by the street lamps at each corner of its one block circumference. In addition, Jamison Square has a very popular, beautifully designed sprinkler system that springs from three layers of a circular rock half circle enclosure, which cyclically fills a shallow wading area and reliably draws enthusiastic children all summer. There is a convenient streetcar line and other public transit readily available for inter-city travel, but you might not want to leave this comfortable, largely upscale neighborhood.
