Review of Raleigh, North Carolina

Raleigh- A great place to live
Star Rating - 11/24/2010
Raleigh and the Triangle in general is a great place to live.
We have three great Research 1 level universitiesthat hire professors from the top universities in the country and do cutting edge research.
We have a very educated community with the highest per capital number of PhD's in the country and hundreds of technology companies.
We have an international airport with service to Europe, Canada and Mexico.
We have three very large malls and three smaller ones with stores ranging from normal mall shops to Nordstroms and Saks Fifth Avenue.
We have a very large science museum (NC Museum of Natural Sciences- largest in the southeast when it was remodelled), the Museum of Life and Science, North Carolina Museum of Art and North Carolina Museum of History. We are definitely not a backwards area like some are saying.
Yes overbearing HOA's are a problem, and I choose not to live in a HOA neighborhood. Raleigh has problems like any city it's size. Yes there are a lot of transplants from northern states, but as a NC native I get along with most of them. They keep comng, so obviously people want to come here. The area is growing very rapidly and consistently makes the list of top places to live.
We have a lot to offer for anyone.

I am from Florida and enjoyed my last visit in Raleigh. Everything CLW posted is true. I meet the people of all types in both the Raleigh-Durham area and they are friendy and polite. There is no perfect area. My area has aligators, hurricains, and high unemployment. Orlando has a perfect 10 for crime but pleanty of things to do. I will be moving soon so I can enjoy the outdoors and new employment.

Boring....strictly for family life, mom's with ball caps and soccer ball stickers on the back of an suv.As far as all the comments about friendly people, they are fake,it's a front. They are really up to their eyeballs in debt, stressed out, have absolutely no individual identity, have lost souls. Lots of middle aged men with beards, glasses, teva sandals. Younger nerdy types, muscle guys with mma t -shirts trying so hard to be cool, femme dads holding babies. The people have no style whatsoever. All these studies that pump up the area's rating's ? Bunch of B.S. Maybe if you base things on on aveage american town or if you come here from Indiana,Ohio,New Jersey. There is nothing hip, cool about this place. You will not find anybody from Cali,Miami,Vegas,or any funky ,eclectic enclave who would think this area is a cool place to call home. I cannot think of one place that I would take out of town guests that would be special, unique,or beautiful in this area. Too many rules.Turn the music down, you may wake up the baby.....No boat or RV parking in the yard, you are bringing the property value down. And all the a** hole type people who will call authorities on you for not abiding by rules. If you are single, think outside of the box, have style.....you will not fit in here.

I couldn't agree more with the Member below named Larry. He is spot on with many of his reviews regarding the Triangle area (Cary, Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, etc). I was speechless! I couldn't have said it any better. Thank you for your honesty!
