How's Quality of Life in Raleigh

How's the quality of life for raising children as an African American Family (cost of living;schools;etc)? I know it's the south and I lived in Virginia for 17 years; however I'm looking to relocate in the near future and I wanted to know more about Raleigh from someone who have experienced living there for several years.
