One of America's Undiscovered Jewels

Rancho Santa Margarita is the sort of city you see in a movie and think to yourself that you'd love to live there. My family moved here in 1995 and could not love it any more enthusiastically. Our three kids were not as enamored with RSM when they were teenagers, but now adults, they can't think of another city they'd rather live in.
I own a business here in RSM and though the residents tend to be overly price-conscious (possibly from being a tad house poor), ample cities and a generous populous abound in local proximity. Businesses and business parks flourish, including both Honda and Toyota dealerships (Mercedes is next door, five minutes out). In other words, the business climate is about a good as it can get. If you can't make it here, maybe running a business was not high on your gift mix.
Being one of the safest cities in California, it's not an ideal locale for those who are prone to skirting the law and have an aversion to rules. Though I rarely see the presence of law enforcement, they are an active and highly dedicated team of consummate professions who are committed to keeping RSM a safe and beautiful city for all its inhabitants. I've had the opportunity to talk with a few of the Sheriffs over the past nineteen years (usually sitting around at lunch) and everyone, male and female alike, were gracious kind folk. I am proud to have them protecting our city.
Restaurant options are good but possibly a bit on the thin side compared to larger metropolises. Regardless, RSM boasts of just about every national chain as well as several fine establishments. Nationally acclaimed Hanna's is in the town center (my favorite), as well as many excellent ethnic restaurants ranging from Italian and Thai to Mexican and Vietnamese. And if this is not enough for your liking, RSM is amid the hub or Orange County where any hankering you might have can be easily satiated within a ten to twenty-minute jaunt.
RSM, like much of Southern California, is ideally situated between the mountains and the beach. It's thirty minutes from our favorite beaches in Laguna, and ninety minutes from skiing in the San Bernardino Mountains. And from our home, we can see both on nearly every day of the week. To say the least, the city is extraordinarily picturesque.
If you love theater, plays, concerts, musicals, opera, jazz, etc., OC has it all, including Tony Award-winning South Coast Repertory Theater, and the OC Performing Arts Center. Both are just 30 minutes from RSM. It's truly one of the best cities in all of California.
