.... I've lived here since I was four. Yes I belive most the elementry schools need some improvement, but we do have some good ones, we have two community collages plus Chico State Universty is only an hour away. YES,
The summers are HOT , and we rarley ever get snow but I still love it. Just make sure you have CENTRAL heat and Air... also A/C in the car is a must!!! We have beauitful Mount Shasta (an hr north with a ski park) and Mt. Lassen (an hour east) both full of snow in the winter and active volcanos. (We also have made cuting our Christmas trees from both a great family traditions) We have two nice lakes (Shasta & Wiskeytown) to help cool us off in summer. The Pacific coast is about 3-4 hours west (depending on how you drive the windy road).
Redding also has Sacramento River the flows through town and offers several walking trails. One hot tourist spot is Turtle Bay Musuem (great for families) and The Sundial Bridge that allows you to walk accross the river. It's pretty cool but I'm still not convinced it was worth the 19 million or whatever to build it.
AS far as shopping and resturantss go we have a good selection including all the basics... Walmart, Bed Bath and Beyond, Best Buy, Petsmart & PetCo, Target, Michaels, CostCo, Pier1, Olive Garden, AppleBees, Chevy's, Red Lobster, Red Robin, just to name a few. Our mall includes a food court, Old Navy, Macy's, JC Penny's, Sears, Wet Seal, Anchor Blue, Buckle, American Eagle, Hott Topic and more.
Night life is okay... We have Win River Casino with Elements bar plus the Martini Bar, and a few clubs/bars that are pretty popular...Rumars/Colsium, Bert and Ernies, Monroes, and the Rusty Nail.
Real Estate... well it is what it is. Personally I think it's too high, but I love Redding and all that comes with it. In the end it makes it worth it and I plan on buying here!!!
