I don't recommend moving to Redding by choice.

I visit Redding on a regular basis for business and I'm always relieved to get back to the Bay Area after a trip there. The weather is fairly uninviting year round. It's either too hot, too cold or raining. There is a severe lack of culture and multiculturalism there. The political sway is way too conservative for my taste. There is a fairly big lack of higher education in most of the adults I have met there. The nightlife is nonexistant except for really seedy bars and a casino. Even after traveling up there for 5 years, I have yet to find a upper end restaurant in town. As far as shopping goes, there is the Shasta Mall. It has improved but it's still pretty run of the mill and plain.
