Natomas Area in Sacramento
Star Rating - 3/22/2007
I live in the older part of Natomas (zip 95833) in a gated community. I lived in the newer part of Natomas (zip 95835). I relocated from Yuma, AZ. I'm also from Southern CA so it's quite different up here compared to down south. I'm a little pessimist so I'll start with the bad and end with the good. I haven't experienced any problems in the gated community of course, but friends that live in apartments that are not gated have some trouble... like their cars broken into- stuff like that. So I recommend living in a gated apartment complex or gated community. When I lived in the newer Natomas area, there was small property crime like cars getting egged, speeding in the neighborhood - not that big of a deal. People getting their gas tanks syphoned is quite common too, but I haven't had that experience either. Real Estate wise, it's not that bad, though I must say there's an awful lot of apartments out here, and more are being built. On the up side, there are lots of places to go. The airport is only about 10 minutes away, and downtown is about 5-10 minutes away, with a lot of attractions. It's also by the American River, where you can rent a tube and go drifting down it in the summer. The older part of Natomas, has lots and lots of trees, where the newer part has more restaurants and shopping centers. It's beautiful in the spring with the blossoms growing from the trees and in the fall when all the leaves change color. Lots of parks to exercise or take the kids to. In the newer Natomas, they have tot lots implemented in the neighborhoods. Very beautiful and well lanscaped. Traffic gets a little bad during the school year, but in the summer it's not bad at all. Definitely recommend getting a boat if you plan on moving out here. I've been to Folsom near Roseville and Lake Berryessa near Napa and Sugar Pine near Foresthill. I find driving a little therapeutic (when you're not driving on the freeway) because of the mild winding roads and natural landscape. I couldn't tell you about the schools because I only have a toddler. Living in AZ for 5 years I forgot how CA people can be. It's 50/50 out here- you meet some of the nicest people, and you run into some of the snobbiest most rude strangers ever! I'm fairly new to the area and haven't lived out here for much long to give you the entire experience.
