I've lived here over 30 years and can't wait to leave. This city is so behind the times that it's embarrassing. Transportation sucks. I'm not just referring to the ever-present highway construction. Public transportation is almost non-existant. There is a local bus company, but it doesn't travel to the fringes of the city (where the expansion is) and it stops running at 11pm (if you're lucky!) But in any case, there's not much to do in this city past 9pm... when the malls close. Shopping and the Spurs are about the only things going on around here. The city and taxpayers don't want to shell out money for anything important. They don't want to pay for a symphony, rapid transit, toll roads, or to give our firefighters and policemen the utilities that they need. There's all this talk about San Antonio being the "8th largest city" (legal city limits) but we have little to show for it. It's just one subdivision after another with a strip mall in between. Culture sucks and the schools - generally speaking - aren't all that great. Most young people drive up to Austin for a goodtime. But if you can stand the heat and would like a very low cost of living, then c'mon down!
