Small Town USA with Big lots and NO HOA!

I am a professional that moved to Santa Fe a year ago. Santa Fe is a small town close to the Ocean and close to amenities. If you don't like having a WALMART down the street from your house, don't much care for Home Owner Associations and want an acre of land then Santa Fe is the place for you. Walmart is a 20 minute drive from my house as well as the Galveston Beaches. Being that there are areas with no HOA (and areas with) you will see diverse housing. A double wide will be next door to a 2500 sq ft brick home.
I see lots of kids playing football, baseball, soccer and cheer.
The worst thing for me is the taxes. I have lived in Michigan and Arizona. Both much cheaper that Texas.
I love it here. It takes me 45 minutes in the AM to get to my downtown job at 5. I don't get road rage in the country. And the dump, well, it's at the edge of town. Not many people live by the dump. It's more of an industrial area. I do not live anywhere near a dump or a factory. There are train tracks running through the middle of town. I don't recommend buying the house next door also. Finally, I feel safe. There are plenty of cops and a REAL fire department. Santa Fe is not as ethnically diverse as say Pearland, but I pass the kids playing ball often and see Hispanics, Blacks and Whites. There are a couple Asian and Indian store owners off of the 6. Not sure where they live.
