Not a good place to live

I lived in Savannah from 2002-2004 and it was probably one of the most undesirable places I've ever lived in, like Toledo OH, Raleigh, NC, and Chesapeake, VA This city was very disappointing and undesirable. Firstly, the climate is just unbearable in the summer. It gets HUMID and it's uncommon for the heat index to be in the 120s+ on some days. Next, the air quality is very poor due to the swamps, factories, etc and isn't good for an allergy sufferer like myself. Being from the north, the people were NOT very welcoming and friendly towards me and some acted like I was from another planet. Not to mention the crime and gangs. There are MANY gangs roaming the streets especially downtown....if you go out in the day, carry protection...and DON'T go out at night!!
My wife and I have two young children that (at first) attended the public schools. The schools were nice, but the quality was awful and they weren't safe due to the large presence of gangs that were threatening the children to join. After the first year our children attended private school for the rest of our time in Savannah.
The city has some great historical places that are worth seeing, and there are actually a few very nice spots in the city; however, that can't make up for the poor quality of life in most parts of the city. I don't reccomend moving here unless absolutely necessesary.
