Review of Seattle, Washington

It's All Relative
Star Rating - 10/1/2006
I have been reading comments from many different cities on this website and there seems to be a trend going on here. Most negativity posted here about individual places, fall across all cities: drug problems, crime, housing costs, people's bad attitudes, weather, political and social attributes, ect. - The more I read, the more I realize that the only way you can truly figure out if the city is worth checking out, is to actually go there and visit it firsthand.
I have lived in a number of different cities across the USA mostly on the West Coast. I currently reside in LA. From reading other’s posts, people are trying to convince you if the city is bad, or not. Just lay down some of you own observances, and let people decide for themselves.
With that said, I lived in Seattle for 12 years, 8 of which were in the Denny Regrade area. I worked in Belltown and walked to work daily. For those of you who are reading this post, the areas I mentioned are in the heart of the city.
Here's what I observed, and these are the positives and negatives of the city and surrounding suburbs. They may not be in your mind, that’s why I am leaving it up to you to decide:
Downtown Seattle has a lot to offer as far as culture, food, and entertainment.
- You have many excellent restaurants, such as the Tom Douglas's Dalia Lounge, Etta’s Seafood, and one of my favorites the Palace Kitchen off of 5th street. There are many more to choose, from lesser known restaurateurs, nonetheless, they offer varied dishes and excellent food. These also have many bars included, and when dinner is no longer served become hang-outs for the bar crowd. Sushi, Indian, Thai, all types of ethnic food are available in Seattle as well; very diversified.
- You have the opera, theater, orchestra, and almost any genre of music you want to hear. (Pioneer Square is a good place to go for Jazz, and many other bands.)
- Many dance clubs, bars, and cool hangouts all over the city.
- You have Starbucks, but there are many independent coffee houses such as Uptown Espresso, one of my favorite places to read a good book. (On 4th and Bell)
Environment
- Clean air, lots of green, water, and plants.
-Yes, the weather can get pretty depressing especially starting from around November to March. To offset this, I would take a vacation to Mexico or somewhere hot and sunny to get my Vitamin E "fix." After my vacation I would be fine the rest of the year. The winters are very mild in Seattle, compared to the East
