Review of Seattle, Washington

Lots to like, but rain does wear on you
Star Rating - 12/11/2009
I moved to Seattle from Denver about three years ago. Weighing both the positives and the negatives, I really like it here, even though I might move down to Southern California for more sunshine. I'm shocked at some of the very negative reviews that Seattle is getting, such as how the people are rude. I understand there are some cold people around here, but I've met plenty of nice, normal people that I go out with for beers on the weekend or hang out with. I think sometimes when it comes to making friends you have to make an effort, step out of your comfort zone or look in the mirror and maybe change your outlook. When I first moved here I didn't know anyone and it was lonely, not going to lie, but then I decided to go out to different things, get involved with certain clubs, and I met friends that I still hang out with to this day. Sure I've met some jerks or arrogant snobs, but you will meet those in any city you're in, trust me.

Back to the city... I love the nature and the beauty of Seattle. You feel this large forest is surrounding a big city, so it gives you a vibe that is unlike any other major city in the country. The skyline on a clear day with the water, the mountains, the skyscrapers and the Space Needle... one of the most underrated in the country. It's so clean and fresh everywhere. Seattle has a lot of very cool neighborhoods with unique coffee shops, concert venues or other entertainment spots. I think to really experience Seattle you have to experience the neighborhoods. Sure, EMP, the Space Needle, Pikes Market, etc. are all fun tourist spots, but they aren't the "real" Seattle. You have to dig deeper to find it, and what you'll find will be what's really special about this city.

I love going to Mariners and Seahawks games, especially when they play my Denver teams. Seattle has some of the nicest stadiums I've ever seen in sports and the fans are much better than you might think.

I also like the easy access to outdoor recreation. Being a born and bred Colorado native, I enjoy hiking, skiing, fishing and other types of outdoor recreation. Seattle has easy access to all of these things and the climate stays pretty mild all year long, so you can stay active even in the heart of winter.

The rain does get depressing after a while, which is about the only reason why I'm considering a move to San Diego, but I still think I'll stay around here. It's a beautiful place with a ton to offer and if you take some chances and risks, I think you'll love it as well.
