Review of Seattle, Washington

Before moving here
Star Rating - 6/20/2007
I have been here for 1.5 years now. There are pros and cons about every place you go.

Pro- lots of cultural activities, inner city parks are beautiful, nice outdoors.

Cons- rent and real estate are way over priced. Must have a good paying job to have a decent lifestyle here. People are strange, passive-aggressive, distant, and pretentious. Making new friends is difficult. More transplants than natives. If I were to speak with 10 people today, at least 8 of them would be from another state. Advanced technology here, seems to equate to very poor human interaction/communication. People here do not communicate well, if at all. Everyone is married to their cell phone and laptop. Homelessness - beggars everywhere you go. They setup outside of banks, grocery stores, theatres, restaurants, on city blocks, etc. There is not a day that I walk down the street without being approached for money. This happens in all parts of town.

My evaluation is that Seattle is over-rated in several areas. I am looking forward to moving soon. I wakeup everyday and remind myself that this is only temporary.

There are so many single people here. I think they prefer to be alone. I have not met a guy here that I want a relationship with.

Weather - terrible for nine months out of the year. Dark, gloomy, overcast, damp, rainy. Summer is for two to three months. I don't remember the fall season, other than rain. It doesn't rain hard and stop. Not usually, its more of a continuous drizzle and dampness for months on end. I'd rather have snow. It rains from Oct. - May.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! for confirming what I have felt since I moved here in July of 2008, these people are passive aggressive! And everyday I too remind myself this is only temporary. My fiance transferred his job here and was lured here by the promise of "most pet friendly state" and the "beautiful outdoors" what they fail to mention is the people and how unhappy, angry, arrogant and rude most of them seem to be. Another bonus is how everyone here seems to be in their own little world. You especially will notice this when driving, they will drift into you lane like your invisible (while on their cell or daydreaming), drive way below the speed limit on the freeway, but drive like a bat out of hell on the main roads, and my favorite deciding at the very last moment (no turn signals) to veer off the freeway or turn off a street (everything's an afterthought with these people). Oh, also how the economy is so over inflated and expensive here. One more thing laid back here isn't the same as other laid back states - from what I've noticed it means every other person you run into smells & looks like they just rolled out of bed and maybe forgot or just didn't bother bathing or changing their outfit. I came to Washington with every intention of liking it, even loving it here. But unfortunately the people here make it one of the worst places to live.
