Life long resident

having lived in Seattle nearly my whole life (40 plus years), I can tell you that it ain't what it used to be. But I can also tell you that what it is ain't that bad. Yes it is expensive. Housing (to purchase) is bad and getting worse and now even the burbs are getting expensive. Food is expensive. Restuarants are also affected by the cost of land as well as your local grocery store. Entertainment is expensive, try $100.00 for two tickets to a basketball or football game. Baseball is only marginally cheaper. Movies are 10 bucks a pop. Traffic is BAD unless you can find a way to live closer in. And as for the people...well, it will take awhile to aclimate to the local culture and make more than casual friends. The "Seattle freeze" is real. I wouldn't say we are un-friendly... we just think we have all the friends we have time for...sad when you think about it. I do it myself all the time and I can't even tell you why. Weird. Politics (in the city) are liberal... and EVERYBODY has to have their say, so very little gets done. As for spitting on conservatives, I think that most of the country has retreated to there own little corner and we no longer listen to anybody else. We are no different. It ain't as wet as sounds, but it is grey, resolutely grey all thru winter, with a few quick sunny breaks in January to teeze you then back to the clouds until April with no guarenty of consistent sun until after the 4th of July. The sidewalks no longer roll up at 9PM...but then we are back to the expensive entertainment. (I remember when the stop lights all went to flashing yellow after midnight) I don't believe we are unfriendly to kids (I have two). And it's not a bad town to be in an interracial relationship (I am) but the area is not really intermixed....unless you seek out those few neighborhoods that are. It's a great town, but is it the best?.....No, it could be better.
