I wanted to post this is response to some of have argued that Seattle-ites residents are rude. I've lived here for about 8 years now, and I used to think the residents are rude. But after some thought, it now seems to me Seattle-ites aren't rude, but instead tend to be self-absorbed.
I think there are numerous factors to explain this, and part of it is the weather (rain). But I think it has more to do with the change in in the populace from working class to professional. Seattle is now largely dominated by career-oriented professionals who are often so busy they don't socialize much outside of their coworkers or family. It seems most Seattle-ites are nearly constantly busy, and don't have time for being cordial. Even when they engage in recreational activities, they like to be busy, perhaps out of habit.
