About Charleston SC

I lived in Charleston SC for thirteen years. What a waste! It's a very clannish and very conservative southern city where the locals will never let you forget the fact if you aren't Charleston born. Why? Because they will always remind you. I am also gay but hardly truly out and have also experienced anti-gay sentiment while living there (highly unpleasant and downright hostile).
Yes, I am a gay man; but hardly a flammer and I'm also middle aged to boot. Even so, Charleston is a historic and romantic place for sure with lots of charm but on the whole it's a rather minature toy-like city whose design doesn't benefit the average or even native Charlestonian. Only the elite and the poor live downtown anyway and everyone else survives across the Ashley or Cooper rivers. And what about low country cuisine? Historic indigenous restaurants simply don't exist like they do in NO. I emphatically do not recommend this city to anyone to relocate who is (in the slightest degree) intellectually or progressively minded. Hey, I'm a true Southerner, save your grits for someplace else in Dixie that knows what good hospitality is all about. The racial divisiveness in this town is ancient and disturbing as well. Have I said enough?
